Stump grinding
A stump can obstruct a garden, mower route or planned landscaping. Grinding reduces the stump using machinery; it is different from excavating the entire root system.
What grinding addresses
Discuss the stump size, location and intended use of the area. The agreed grinding depth and extent should match the job. Grinding does not guarantee removal of every root or prevent all regrowth.
Machinery access
Provide the narrowest gate width, steps, slopes and ground conditions. Flag underground utilities, irrigation, nearby walls, paving and any known buried objects. Access suitability needs checking before booking.
What happens afterwards
Agree the grinding depth and whether chips remain on site or are removed. Backfilling, soil supply, turfing, root excavation and landscaping are excluded unless separately included in writing.
Preparing the site
Identify each stump and mark known services. Discuss the proposed use of the ground and any limitations around roots or structures before accepting the quote.

Can I build over the area afterwards?
Discuss your plans with the relevant building or landscaping professional. Grinding alone does not establish that the ground is suitable for construction.
